Talks in wearing a dress

2015

participatorial research project

Daejeon Temi Residency

For my mother and women from the generation, who have lived considering sacrificing themselves towards family as virtue, what would be the meaning of the time they are spending in front of dressing table? Through the time when they only think of themselves and the time when they meet themselves in the mirror, in this project, I have collected life and love stories of ordinary middle-aged women, who can easily be found around us.

After transforming my studio into a powder room, I invited those women who are aged between 50 and 60. I become participants' hairdresser and coordinator, and do their makeups and hairdressing. While talking about their stories about romantic days with their husbands, unfulfilled love, or love towards their families and neighbors, participants are done embellished. Participants than change to dress and move to a near-by photo studio. Each participants gets a shot alone. Printed photo is given to each participants as a souvenir, and content of their stories is saved as archive.
