Calisthenics Yonae is inspired by the various women-led, group-unit folk dances such as ceremonies to summon rain and clear weather, this performance takes the form of a choreography workshop. Yonae is the name of a well that is associated with a king of Silla who often appears in historical records of men’s achievements, including Korea’s founding myth. This performance is based on the stories of women and conjures the imagery of rainwater being absorbed into the earth and springing back up. Participants will be able to learn and experience the gestures of women, internalizing the water cycle that connects the sky and earth.
